Guilt

Guilt is an emotion you feel when you believe you have caused harm or committed a violation of morality. The brain self-polices even when an infringement is unproved by the rational brain.

Guilt attempts to fix the past by punishing the self in the present. Instead of guilt, separate yourself entirely from the unreliable emotional motivation and seek your long-term goal. Rationally analyze the situation and seek the best result.

How can you rid yourself of guilt? From personal experience, meditation can work. I know that I feel less guilt now than I did when I was a youth. When you meditate you realize that emotions are just subjective states of mind and guilt has no power over you.

Guilt is the self turned against itself. It cannot repair the past, only consume the present. I will not mistake suffering for virtue. I will examine, correct, and continue. What can be repaired, I shall repair. What cannot be changed, I shall release. I keep the lesson, not the wound.
