Anecdotes
Diogenes was approached by Alexander the Great, who offered to grant him any wish. Diogenes replied:
“Stand out of my sunlight.”
I once saw a teacher say to a student
“If I saw you leaning in your chair, I wouldn’t wish to work for you.”
He answered:
“Don’t worry. I wouldn’t hire you in the first place ”
I once asked an anonymous student:
“What do you do so differently? Why are you so out of distribution?”
After thinking about it, He said :
“I think it’s because I care more. I always look deeper”
According to this silly story, a farm woman, at the end of a heavy day’s work, set before her menfolks a heaping pile of hay. And when they indignantly demanded whether she had gone crazy, she replied: “Why, how did I know you’d notice? I’ve been cooking for you men for the last twenty years and in all that time I ain’t heard no word to let me know you wasn’t just eating hay.”
A sister once observed to her brother that people had begun to regard her as more pleasant, owing perhaps to the improvement in her appearance after having her teeth straightened. Her brother replied, with that mixture of wit and cruelty peculiar to family affection, that such judgments were premature. “They are merely admiring the architecture,” he remarked; “wait until you opens your mouth, and they will abandon all such foolish notions.”
